The Botox® Cosmetic Procedures
The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name Botox® Cosmetic, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet near the eyes. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles so that the skin has a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Botox® has also been shown to be effective in relieving migraine headaches and excessive sweating of the palms and/or underarm.
Dr. Morris Ahdoot will start by determining where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create a furrowed brow vary markedly among individuals. Next, he will administer several tiny injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic directly into the muscles that cause those moderate to severe frown lines between the brows.
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Most patients compare the sensation to a pin prick. In fact, you may resume normal activity immediately. You may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows within days. Improvement may continue for as long as a month, and could last up to 4 months.
BOTOX ®, or botulinum toxin type A, has been in use since 1981, which means there is more than 25 years of data on the side effects and long-term outcomes with this product.
